In a 2023 call for proposals, VIEWS was selected to develop a global mapping of existing early-warning systems for conflict and natural hazards to assist UNHCR in developing their own internal EWS.
Objectives
Global mapping of existing early-warning systems for conflict and natural hazards
Implement a systematic mapping of existing operational early-warning system for armed conflict and natural hazards, with particular focus on droughts, floods, earthquakes, and tsunamis.
Systematic Comparison and Assessment of the Mapped Systems
Conduct a systematic, qualitative review and assessment of the identified systems, from the perspective of their suitability as a blueprint for, or incorporation into, a bespoke UNHCR EWS for forced displacement.
Develop a Roadmap for Building a Bespoke Forced Displacement EWS
Draft a roadmap and proposed path to developing a bespoke early-warning system for forced displacement within UNHCR.
