Gothenburg, Sweden – The 2025 Demscore Conference kicked off in Gothenburg on 9 June with an opening panel on Forecasting Political Change, highlighting the contributions of the consortium’s partner modules. VIEWS Director Håvard Hegre joined fellow scholars to discuss how data-driven research can track and anticipate shifts in political systems, conflicts and societal dynamics.
As one of DEMSCORE’s partner modules, the Violence & Impacts Early-Warning System (VIEWS) brings advanced forecasting of armed conflict to the consortium’s broader mission: harnessing data and empirical research to address pressing political, social, and economic challenges.
VIEWS was also represented in two additional panels during the conference: the Methodology Workshop “Data Collection and Processing: Sharing Methods, Expertise, and Opportunities”, and the subsequent panel “Uncertain Counts, Uncertain Futures: Innovations in Conflict Data Collection and Forecasting”. These sessions underscored the system’s commitment to methodological transparency and innovation in conflict forecasting.
Together, these discussions highlighted the transformative potential of data-driven research in addressing contemporary political, social, and economic challenges.
