VIEWS Director Håvard Hegre was recently interviewed by the Danish fact-checking site TjekDet in connection with an article scrutinizing a widely circulated – and highly controversial – report on projected deaths in Gaza.

The article, titled “Useriøs” og “ekstremt uansvarlig”: Forskere kritiserer rapport, der anslår 680.000 døde i Gaza (“Unserious” and “extremely irresponsible”: Researchers criticize report estimating 680.000 dead in Gaza”), gathers expert commentary on the methodological flaws of a report estimating 680,000 deaths from the ongoing conflict. Hegre contributes his perspective as a leading scholar of conflict research – and co-author of a large-scale household survey estimating death tolls in Gaza – offering a critical assessment of the report’s assumptions and lack of transparency.
