Simon Polichinel von der Maase and Sonja Häffner presents at the 59th North American Meeting of the Peace Science Society (International) held in Orlando, Florida, on 13-15 November 2025.

Orlando, Florida (USA) – VIEWS researchers Sonja Häffner and Simon Polichinel von der Maase participated in the 59th North American Meeting of the Peace Science Society (International), held in Orlando, Florida, from November 13–15, 2025. They presented PRIO’s EdAttack framework during the workshop on “Large Language Models and Generative AI for Conflict Research.”

The EdAttack project – Conflict-related attacks on education in sub-Saharan Africa and children’s lost life opportunities – is the first systematic effort to study attacks on education and their short- and long-term consequences for children in affected areas. The team combines large language models (LLMs), synthetic text data, and an active learning framework to develop a new, georeferenced dataset of education-related attacks across sub-Saharan Africa. This innovative approach opens new avenues for data-scarce environments, offering insights into how conflict disrupts children’s access to education and shapes their futures.

Led by Gudrun Østby at PRIO, the EdAttack project includes VIEWS researchers Sonja Häffner, Dylan Pinheiro, Simon Polichinel von der Maase at PRIO, and Xiaolong Sun at Uppsala University. The project is funded by the Research Council of Norway.
