On 22 November, Gudlaug Olafsdottir successfully defended her doctoral dissertation Precarious Paths to Democracy: Electoral Violence and the Struggle for Democratization at Uppsala University. Her thesis examines the relationship between electoral violence and democratization.

Leading up to the start of her PhD program, Gudlaug worked as a Research Assistant with the VIEWS team and has continued to collaborate with the team through her doctoral studies.
