Earlier this month, Angelica Lindqvist-McGowan and Paola Vesco presented the Violence & Impacts Early-Warning System (VIEWS) for the UN 2.0 Data Strategy Community in a webinar titled “How Predictive Analytics Are Powering Early Action in Conflict Zones”.

The invitation was shared with over 9,000 staff across the UN system globally, and the session drew close to 100 participants from a range of UN entities. Lindqvist-McGowan and Vesco illustrated how VIEWS’ AI-driven forecasting system generates monthly, geo-referenced forecasts of state-based armed conflict and highlighted ongoing work to expand the system to also forecast associated impacts. The presentation emphasized how anticipatory tools like VIEWS can support forward-looking planning, early warning, and prevention efforts within multilateral institutions.

The VIEWS team was pleased to engage with participants’ questions about methodological transparency, geographic coverage, and opportunities for integration into UN workflows. This engagement reflects the growing interest in scalable, data-driven approaches to risk analysis and conflict prevention.
