Rome, Italy – On 1 July 2025, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) officially launched its the Financing for Shock-Driven Food Crisis (FSFC) Facility—a global mechanism designed to prevent and rapidly respond to food crises by acting on early warnings before disasters escalate. The facility supports the release of anticipatory funding in response to emerging risks, enabling faster and more cost-effective humanitarian responses.

As a core contributor to the initiative, VIEWS provides the conflict hazard forecasting component that informs these early action triggers. Since late 2023, VIEWS has worked closely with FAO to integrate forward-looking conflict risk analysis into the system. A new contract, signed in August 2025, will extend this collaboration for another 12 months.

VIEWS Director Håvard Hegre and Senior Researcher Simon Polichinel von der Maase represented the project team at the launch conference in Rome, underscoring VIEWS’ ongoing commitment to data-driven solutions for global crisis prevention.
