The Violence & Impacts Early-Warning System (VIEWS) was awarded a Special Distinction for the Use of AI for Peace at the 2024 Kluz Prize for PeaceTech award ceremony in New York City on September 20th.
The annual awards celebrate groundbreaking achievements in PeaceTech, selected by a distinguished jury of experts and leaders from the tech sector, civil society, and academia. It is designed to celebrate, recognize, and propel the innovative use of emerging technologies to foster peace, reduce conflict, and safeguard human dignity and universal human rights across the globe.



VIEWS stood out among over 90 nominees worldwide, impressing the Selection Committee with its “unparalleled dedication and groundbreaking contributions to advancing global peace by leveraging technology responsibly and effectively.”
Reacting to the recognition, Professor Håvard Hegre who leads VIEWS said, “we are honored to receive this distinction. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team. Our goal has always been to leverage technology to predict and possibly prevent conflicts and their adverse impacts. This award reinforces the importance of our mission.”
The committee’s motivation further highlighted how the innovative approach and enduring commitment of the VIEWS team plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration, promoting peace and responsible tech development, and empowering communities globally – showcasing the transformative potential of technology when used as a force for good.
The special distinction underscores the significant impact of the collaborative efforts between PRIO and Uppsala University in advancing peace research and technology.
