On December 10th, VIEWS researcher Stefan Döring presented insights on the impact of war on water access and society during a seminar organized by the Geneva Water Hub at the University of Geneva.
The seminar, focused on turning water diplomacy research into action, brought together experts to discuss the challenges of bridging science and policy in water diplomacy. Döring’s presentation highlighted how armed conflict exacerbates water insecurity, disrupts essential services, and intensifies humanitarian crises. His research examines these dynamics, offering critical insights into how war reshapes access to vital resources and the broader societal consequences.
The event also emphasized the importance of connecting research with policy action, stressing the need for timing, trust-building, and reflexivity in water diplomacy. During his visit, Döring also met with UN organizations to talk about global water cooperation.
