Alexa Timlick, Research Assistant with VIEWS and at PRIO, received the 2024 Mats Hammarström Prize for the outstanding master thesis from the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University.
Unanimously, the committee awarded the Mats Hammarström prize for a methodologically rigorous, theoretically complex and innovative thesis, which offered innovative contributions to the research fields of conflict onset and conflict dynamics. The thesis sought to elucidate the potential impacts of unexpected changes in development aid on conflict onset through a comprehensive quantitative examination of 131 recipient countries from 2002-2022.
Alexa was also awarded the 2024 DEMSCORE Prize for Best Master Thesis at the 2024 DEMSCORE Conference in June.
