Team Members Sara Kallis, Simon Polichinel von der Maase, and Garrett Benz presented ongoing and future VIEWS work on Wednesday, 7 February 2024 at the Inaugural Conference of the Atrocity Prevention Lab, hosted at the Signal Program on Human Security and Technology at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative. The overarching conference topic was “From Data to Action: Atrocity Prevention Through Spatial Methods”.
Through a series of expert-led presentations, panels, and workshops, the conference explored how spatial methods, such as geographic information systems (GIS), can help us better understand patterns of violence, identify vulnerable populations, and develop effective conflict and atrocity prevention strategies. The target audience was broad, ranging from early warning practitioner, researcher, data analyst, policy maker, or simply curious about the applications of spatial methods for atrocity prevention.
We first held a 20-Minute Presentation on Spatiotemporal Learning, as well as a 45-Minute Presentation on VIEWS and how to access our predictions. The recordings of both sessions are available below.
