Dr. Stefan Döring, researcher with the Violence & Impacts Early-Warning System (VIEWS) consortium, was recently featured in the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet in connection with rising tensions between India and Pakistan.

In the article “Pakistan hotar med kärnvapenkrig efter Indiens vattenhot”, Dr. Döring emphasizes that, historically, water agreements like the Indus Water Treaty have served as important channels for dialogue and cooperation—even between rivals. He warns that threatening water access in a country heavily reliant on it for agriculture is extremely sensitive, but also points out that India’s technical capacity to block water flows is currently limited.
